Shopify Unite was massive this year! A lot of long requested features and functionality were announced as being in the pipeline for release later this year.
Let’s take a look at what you’ve got to look forward to this year as a Shopify store owner.
1. Shopify Connectors – Automations based on triggers & events
Shopify connectors are automations based on events and triggers. These can be events that start in one app and end in another. Allowing your apps to talk to one another. Shopify Plus stores can sign up for early access to this feature.
2. Locations
Finally, Shopify Plus stores will be able to manage inventory for multiple locations, all in one place. This means you can keep an eye on location-specific trends, as well as allowing you to keep on top of stock and know when to reorder more.
3. Fraud Protect for Shopify Payments
Shopify payments will now be protected from fraudulent payments. You no longer have to manually review suspicious looking orders. If a chargeback is made on the customer’s card, Shopify will automatically issue a refund and handle the dispute.
4. Marketing Simplification
In late 2018, Shopify Plus users will have the ability to create marketing campaigns within their Shopify dashboard. You’ll be able to create email marketing campaigns, social media posts, referral campaigns, discount banners, paid ad campaigns and more.
Shopify will also provide you with intelligent marketing recommendations which will place your products in front of the right audience.
5. Multi-Currency for Shopify Payments
Multi-currency payments will be initially available for Shopify Plus users, but will eventually rolled out to all Shopifiers. This feature will show shoppers their local currency, based on geolocation, and will settle in your preferred currency.
The best part is that prices in local currencies will be rounded to a familiar number like $49.95, rather than $49.83, which adds an element of trust for your international shoppers.
6. Local Payment Methods for Shopify Payments
This feature will offer popular payment methods based on where your shopper lives. For example, Germans typically pay via bank transfer, rather than by credit card, so that’s the option they’d be shown first, not credit card.
This feature will be shown to customers who live in: USA, Puerto Rico, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
7. Seamless Retail Selling
Over the next year, Shopify will be rolling out three features. 1) A tap & chip card reader that works with any device, syncs to your Shopify, and is PCI-compliant. 2) The ability to allow customers to tip your employees. And 3), returns and exchanges that allow both to take place, whether the product was purchased online or in-store.
8. Buy One Get One (BOGO) Offers & Quantity Discounts
All Shopify stores now have the ability to setup discounts like ‘buy 2 cushions, get a free throw’, or discounts based on quantity, such as ‘buy 3 mugs, get the 4th free’.
9. Dynamic Checkout
The dynamic checkout button lets shoppers make a purchase right from the product page, as it skips the cart page and takes them directly to the checkout. You can also choose to have the button unbranded (it says ‘buy now’), or branded (which says ‘buy with x’). The payment method shown on the branded button will depend on the browser and device that your shopper is using (i.e. Paypal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Amazon Pay).
